A Fortune500 Insurance company is looking for a Financial Controller to join their HQ in Tokyo. The ideal candidate will be primarily responsible for the company’s financial planning, analysis and reporting, budgeting capacity acting as a key member in the Japan Finance team, reporting into Regional APAC.

Your Responsibilities

  • Reporting for management and external stakeholders on financials and financial KPIs
  • Reporting for Japan and Regional management teams on financial KPIs, planning and analysis (IFRS basis)
  • Reporting on financial results for internal and external stakeholders (JGAAP basis)
  • As a manager, manage overall processes and makes necessary communications with various parties together with team members
  • Monthly: creating monthly closing schedule, issuing Monthly Management Report on financial KPIs and business updates
  • Quarterly: creating financial reports on quarterly results together with Valuation teams and others and reporting to Regional management teams
  • Analysis and reporting on sales and expenses
  • Annual planning process
  • Reports for annual review by credit rating agency
  • Opportunities to closely work with the regional office, CFO, and department heads and to be exposed to various kinds of management information which requires speed and own judgment to handle
  • Quarterly (with peak seasons in May-June for year-end closing): coordinating overall closing schedule and creating reports (e.g. Press Release, Annual Reports, Reports for FSA and Life Insurance Association of Japan and internal management)

The Skills and Experience You Need to Succeed

  • Native Japanese/ Business English
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA or CPA a big plus
  • Demonstrated advanced critical thinking skills and ability to work in fast-paced environment
  • Insurance experience would be a huge plus
  • Ability to influence and navigate cross-functional teams to accomplish goals
  • Strong Excel and system skills
  • Perform multiple tasks in a dynamic environment in order to meet deadlines;
  • Attention to accuracy and details
  • Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills in both Japanese and English
  • Working knowledge of financial and accounting processes a benefit
  • Comfortable using the computer, particularly MS Office applications.
