Role Overview A global pharmaceutical organization is seeking a Japan Vaccine Development Lead to head the end-to-end Japan development strategy for vaccine projects, in alignment with global project priorities and overall R&D and business objectives.
This role owns the integrated Japan development plan and is accountable for its execution through close coordination with global project teams and Japan cross-functional stakeholders, from development through licensure and launch.
Key Responsibilities
Own and drive Japan vaccine development strategy aligned with global project strategy
Act as Japan representative and core member of the Global Project Team
Build, lead, and mentor the Japan Project Team across R&D, Regulatory, Manufacturing & Supply, Commercial, and enabling functions
Ensure integration of Japan-specific needs into global plans
Lead risk assessment, mitigation planning, and issue escalation
Own visibility and governance of project budget, resources, and timelines
Drive execution toward stage-gate milestones with ambitious yet realistic plans
Manage external collaborations (partners, academia, joint ventures) where applicable
Act as the primary ambassador and point of contact for the vaccine project in Japan
Required Experience & Skills
Strong vaccine R&D and/or vaccine business background
Proven leadership of complex cross-functional projects in a matrix organization
Strong financial, resource, and decision-making acumen
Deep understanding of the Japan regulatory and healthcare environment
Ability to influence without direct reporting authority
Education
PhD, MD, or PharmD strongly preferred
Strong scientific or academic foundation across the vaccine value chain
Languages
Business-level fluency in both English and Japanese
