Role Overview
A global pharmaceutical organization is seeking a Japan Vaccine Development Lead to head the end-to-end Japan development strategy for vaccine projects, in alignment with global project priorities and overall R&D and business objectives.
This role owns the integrated Japan development plan and is accountable for its execution through close coordination with global project teams and Japan cross-functional stakeholders, from development through licensure and launch.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and drive Japan vaccine development strategy aligned with global project strategy
- Act as Japan representative and core member of the Global Project Team
- Build, lead, and mentor the Japan Project Team across R&D, Regulatory, Manufacturing & Supply, Commercial, and enabling functions
- Ensure integration of Japan-specific needs into global plans
- Lead risk assessment, mitigation planning, and issue escalation
- Own visibility and governance of project budget, resources, and timelines
- Drive execution toward stage-gate milestones with ambitious yet realistic plans
- Manage external collaborations (partners, academia, joint ventures) where applicable
- Act as the primary ambassador and point of contact for the vaccine project in Japan
- Strong vaccine R&D and/or vaccine business background
- Proven leadership of complex cross-functional projects in a matrix organization
- Strong financial, resource, and decision-making acumen
- Deep understanding of the Japan regulatory and healthcare environment
- Ability to influence without direct reporting authority
- PhD, MD, or PharmD strongly preferred
- Strong scientific or academic foundation across the vaccine value chain
- Business-level fluency in both English and Japanese
