Director of Buying

Job Description:

Primary Purpose:

The Director of Buying is a key member of the leadership team, collaborating closely with the President and other leaders to execute business and brand strategies for growth.

Responsibilities:

- Lead the buying team in developing and executing buying strategies for all product categories across various channels.
- Drive business objectives by analyzing market trends, customer feedback, and competitive landscape to inform product assortments.
- Manage financial targets and inventory levels to maximize revenue and margins.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive storytelling and consumer experiences.
- Gather qualitative feedback and insights from field teams to inform product and marketing strategies.
- Lead and participate in regular meetings to drive business goals and facilitate collaboration.
- Work with Marketing and License teams to execute collaborative activities.

Requirements:

- Minimum 10 years of experience, including 5 years in buying or merchandising, preferably in a global retail and e-commerce setting.
- Fluent in Japanese and English.
- Strong leadership skills with a passion for team collaboration and development.
- Deep understanding of the Japanese fashion market and consumer behavior.
- Passion for fashion and retail with the ability to balance creativity and business objectives.
- Ability to develop strong product strategies and effectively communicate them to global and local teams.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive and collaborative leadership style.
