Team Leader

Hospitality & Consumer Goods

Ian runs Specialized Group’s Hospitality Team: an industry-focused team specializing in all things hospitality. Their client portfolio spans across travel and tourism brands such as airlines and hotels, to leisure and entertainment names such as theme parks and cruise companies, and includes the service industry including service offices and apartments. Together with his team, they fill mid-level to executive positions across Commercial, Operational, and Corporate/Executive functions.

As a recruiter, Ian’s sweet spot lies within the hotel industry, with successful placements in hotels throughout Japan including Chefs, Hotel Managers, and various functional Directors (Rooms/F&B/Sales/Marketing). He consults clients and candidates through a combination of his industry knowledge with support and understanding, allowing candidates to thrive in new positions and companies to achieve their objectives.

Ian's diverse background has given him a range of cultural and personal experiences to complement his skill set as a manager. Originally from the UK, Ian graduated from the University of York with a bachelor's degree in English language and linguistics, and he spent three years studying music and audio technology in Singapore. He was a former gymnast, competitive volleyball player, qualified audio engineer, and military officer.

Outside of work, Ian still plays volleyball casually and also enjoys cooking and traveling, spending his weekends trying out new recipes and researching his next vacation.

The only word to describe Japan’s tourism industry at the moment is “booming”. Led by 2020’s Olympics – with a targeted 40 million arrivals expected to bring in 80 trillion Japanese yen in revenue across 2020 – following on to the potential Integrated Resorts and World Expo Osaka 2025, its growth shows no signs of slowing down. The competition for acquiring the best talent has never been more intense, with more companies and foreign investment capitalizing on this momentum to enter the Japanese market.
